I love this. I love the patience and grace you give your younger self. I aspire to that.

Ooh, I keep forgetting to ask since you talk about sobriety. Not sure if you've tried any of the new NA beers out lately but they're actually good now! I'm not sober and do love a beer after a run or bike ride. I sometimes would get a craving for a second after a long run and that always made me feel awful about ½ way through the glass so now I mix it up with either an Athletic NA IPA or Brooklyn Brewery. Before finding these I remember more than a decade ago trying NA Heineken and…yuck! But they seem to have come a long way.

Hey, Chris. My wife and I are actually Athletic Brewing ambassadors! NAs were really important for me in early sobriety... Scratched that itch, as it were. I think my tastes have changed, though, and I don't find myself craving those flavors. Still do like the crack of a can and to have a cold one in my hand. But these days, it's usually sparkling water.

Great. Now this thread looks like a cynical sales pitch setup for Athletic! :)

The Free Wave IPA is the one that's really grown on me. More and more I find myself craving it vs some of the other flavors where...I dunno... it's like I can tell there's the missing taste of alcohol and it's not quite right. But Free Wave seems to stand nicely on its own.

Seltzer water has been my personal savior. Alcohol has never been a big vice for me but back in the day I could down can after can after can of sugary Mello Yello. Oof! That was 25lbs ago. I've successfully replaced that with Cherry Bubly.

Thanks for the reco. I enjoy his stuff. More patient and story-focused than much of the running content these days.

Loved that line
